Try Something New #ad

I am a brights kind of gal, always have been. Yes i may dabble with neutrals and have some standard pieces in my wardrobe but I love to add a hit of colour to most outfits, whether that be in the form of a fun accessory (red shoes, yellow bag!) or full on bright-tastic, it just makes me feel like i’m dressing happy when i’m in my brights.

This summer JD Williams are daring you to Try Something New, to step out of the shadows and in to brights for a fun and fabulous season. I’ve chosen a few looks to show how easy peasy it is to dress in brights, there is something for everyone, whether you’re a trousers dweller or a dress lover, there is definitely a fun colour to be worn.

Bright Trousers

Jean Jacket, Spot Trousers White Wrinkle Shirt Adidas Trainers

Normally one to shy away from brights on my bottom half (i’m a pear shape gal, carrying my weight on my bottom, hips and thighs) these trousers are a bit of a step out of my comfort zone, but in the vane of going bright i really wanted to try something fun, and these red and polka dot trousers are most definitely FUN! But by stepping out of my comfort zone i have found a lovely pair of trousers that i really enjoy wearing, not only are they fun, but they’re comfy and hang perfectly too, skimming my hips and creating a great silhouette. I paired my spotty trousers with a classic white shirt and the staple denim jacket. My keeping the rest of the outfit fairly neutral it makes the trousers really wearable.

This is my ideal weekend outfit, perfect for errands, brunchin’ or even running my kids around. I also love the fact that this outfit is so bright and cheerful and summery, but if its a little bit chilly (as, lets face it we can’t always guarantee the warmth here in the UK) I wont freeze as i have the coverage and layers but still look seasonably appropriate.

The Pop of Colour

White and Block print shirt, Red Block heel shoes

An easy way to to Try Something New with any colour is by doing so with an accessory, and whats easier than a lovely pair of bright shoes.

It is the best way to dabble with colour; you can keep the rest of the outfit as neutral as can be, and still keep you feeling in your comfort zone if you’re not used to brights. I love a monochrome outfit, they are classic and timeless and will work hard in your wardrobe, but by adding a pop of red it really amps up the look and defines the outfit. These beautiful red block heel shoes are just right for me, gone are they days of uncomfy thin heeled skyscrapper shoes. These are pretty yet practical and will be perfect for office or evening wear. I really love these shoes and know the sweet little ankle strap adds the touch of elegance i love from a shoe. They make me feel funky and ladylike all at the same time, which to me is definitely a winner!

I would wear this outfit out for casual meal with the girls, or even to the office, all the time feeling like i could click my red heeled shoes together at any moment 😉

The Colourful Dress (with Pockets!)

Bold Print Dress Espadrille shoes

Give me a fun dress and i’m a happy girl. Bright colours with a pattern= even better. These big bold florals are perfect for BBQ’s in the summer and days in the office. The added bonus of pockets means this dress is even more of a staple (don’t ask me why, i just love dresses with pockets.. it gives my hands somewhere to go, haha!). Getting a gorgeous dress that is fun will be a summer staple without a doubt. I think this one will be on constant repeat for me this season. The great thing with dresses is they are throw on and go, super easy as very little styling is required. Its a simple one piece wonder that makes it look like you’ve really made an effort, even if you’ve just donned one item and paired it with some shoes. Dresses have that ability to make you look put together, even though you know it took you all of 10 minutes to get ready… my favourite kind of outfit.

With such a bold dress I kept the shoes super simple with a pair of my summer staple shoes: The Espadrille.

Espadrilles have been the shoe to rock for summer upon summer, for me the closed toe sling backs with a medium wedge are by far the best shoe to have for season as they will work well with so many outfits, and if they’re good enough for Princess Kate, well they are definitely good enough for me.

So have i managed to convince you to Try Something New this summer and if so, which outfit would you go for?

Let me know in the comments below, i’d love to know what you’ll be wearing this summer!

**This is a collaborative post with JD Williams, thank you for supporting me and the brands that make this fun! As always, all outfits are chosen by me and all thoughts and words are my own.**

Im still not super comfortable with bright bottoms and stick to pops of color instead. But the look is so cute and fun, I definitely want to try it out some day!

You have me wishing I did not put back a pair of cobalt blue sandals on their rack, because seeing your pop of red shoes looks like such fun! Lessons learned. We’ll also see about wearing colorful bottoms this summer. I own a minty green skirt and pink trousers that I have yet to style.
