Are you thinking about embracing a retro style in terms of how you approach fashion? It’s something that you should at least try out because there are so many options out there. It doesn’t even have to be an overtly retro style because there are ways to make retro items look and feel modern if that’s more your sort of thing. Read on to find out how you can rock a retro style and make it work well for you.
Know Which Retro Style and Time Period You Want to Focus On
First of all, you should have a think about which styles and which retro time periods you most enjoy. Maybe you like the style of the 1960s and want to incorporate some of that into what you do with your clothes. It’s up to you which retro styles you focus on, but don’t rule any of the options out until you’ve done a little more research into what they’re all about.
For me 60’s/70’s are my style, i love the fit and vivid prints and colours. For my friend Allie its 50’s or 80’s, the style fits her shape and her style perfectly. Her insta gives me retro inspo all the time.
Browse the Thrift Stores
Thrift stores are your friend when it comes to finding retro gems that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. You can rummage around in these places for hours, and if you come out of it all with a few pieces that you love, it’s like hitting the jackpot. It’s all part of the fun of embracing retro clothes. The hunt for those neglected fashion items is part of what makes it so enjoyable. My step daughter loves to rummage through thrift stores and comes up with some real gems, she either keeps them as is and mixes with high street or customises them to her liking/fit.
Stock Up on Comfortable Retro T-Shirts
This is one easy way to embrace something more retro. It’s about representing something retro on a modern t-shirt, which you can find examples of at Luc Bauer. This might not technically be using retro items as such, but you are using retro iconography to add to your style in the same way. So stock up on these shirts and incorporate them into your overall style.
Combine Old and New
Combining old and new styles is one fun way to make sure you get this right. It’s all about combining things that you like about retro aesthetics and the clothing items and styles from a contemporary standpoint that you enjoy as well. There’s nothing wrong with mixing and matching and seeing which combinations work and which don’t.
Experiment and Have Fun With It

Experimenting and having with with all this is really important. If you’re not enjoying it and having fun with it, there’s really no point at all. It should be something that you enjoy and can get something out of in that regard. There should be no limits on what you can try and what you want to do with your retron style so don’t be afraid to take risks and go in new directions.
Going with a retro style can be a great way to revitalise your love of fashion and to make yourself start thinking creatively about how you dress each day. It can also be a lot of fun, so give it a try and see what you find most appealing to you. You might just surprise yourself.
