Styling a Maxi Dress for summer

Image from this post (3 years ago.. wow how did that happen?!)

Maxi dresses are fantastic aren’t they. They are  one of those items of clothing that are just extremely versatile, so if you do not already own one, keep reading and let me see if I can convince you that you need one (at least) in your life too.

There are, of course, many styles of maxi dress and so many different occasions can be covered with one of these staple dresses. Dress it up, dress it down, choose a boho style or a more an occasion style, they just work. They also hide a multitude of sins (think food babies, white legs or just general jiggly bits you dont really want on display), can come with sleeves or sleeveless, in a multitude of styles and colours and also sizes to fit all.

I’ve been loving the selection at JD Williams lately, take a look.. and you will see what I mean. I’ve placed an order for a couple so shall keep you posted.

Tiered maxi dresses

This year, tiered maxi dresses are available in a lot of shops. They have a bit of a Boho vibe going on, which means they look especially nice when worn with a pair of strappy sandals. The tiered design means that the skirt hangs slightly away from the body, almost creating an A-line look. This shape enables the air to circulate freely around your legs, which makes them an especially good choice on exceptionally hot days.

Pleated maxi dresses

If you don’t really like the A-line shape of the tiered cut, try a pleated maxi dress. The pleating means that there is plenty of fabric used in the dress, which means it moves freely. This style of maxi dress also doesn’t cling to your legs as you walk.. #winner

Pleated maxi dresses can also be very classy looking. They are ideal for wearing to a special occasion and could even work well in certain office environments.

Tie-dyed maxi dresses

For those of you who are taken with the Boho look a tie-dyed maxi dress could be perfect. They have a casual feel about them, which makes them perfect for taking away on your holidays. The mix of colors used means that you probably already own other items of clothing that will blend in well with your new dress. Something that means you can use it as the base of several different outfits.

Lace trimmed maxi dresses

If you are looking for a dress to wear to a summer wedding a lace trimmed or beaded maxi dress could work. They are glamorous and special enough to work for this type of occasion. You can easily add a wrap or smart jacket to make sure you do not feel cold if the sun does not shine.

A multiway maxi dress

A multiway dress has got to be one of the most versatile items of clothing you can buy. Depending on the design, you can wear it in about a dozen different ways.

It’s also a particularly good choice for someone who finds that their weight fluctuates (uh.. that would be me then). The top section of the dress incorporates two wide fabric strips, which you can wrap around yourself as tightly or loosely as you need to. If you want to see how this style of dress can be adapted to suit your mood or size on the day, take a quick look at this short video.

By now, you have probably realised that I am a huge fan of the maxi dress. If you want to see one of my favourite ways to wear a floral maxi, click here and you’ll see how i love them for pretty much any season.

So tell me, if you aren’t already a fan like me, have I convinced you to try maxi dresses this season?

I don’t think they look good on me, but seeing yippy in these beautiful dresses makes me wonder…..should I?
