Summer Capsule REVEAL

Good God this was tough. Shopping, deciding and over thinking these past few days has really made me glad i don’t have to put any more brain power in to this as it’s been really consuming. Even now I’m not entirely sure if i’ve done the right thing or if these pieces will see me comfortably through for the next 3 months.
I think it may be because there is less thinking in summer dressing, less layers and generally easier styling as its too hot to add anything additional most of the time.
And then on the other hand, sometimes its not hot, just mild at best, and so I have had to cover off those eventualities as well.
It’s helped that it’s been wall to wall sunshine the past 10 days so that has me in summer mode, but i know only too well that it can change at the drop of a hat.
All in all I *think* i’m done.. (More like i can not be arsed(technical term) to put any more brain power in to this for now). But with some old and a few new pieces I am excited to start creating outfits once again.

For me the capsule is aimed at making my life easier on a daily basis and to limit my shopping habit. Easier because i don’t have endless amounts of clothes to be indecisive about, and limiting the shopping habit as i have been known to shop like its an Olympic sport of which I’m a Gold medal winner 3 times over.
Spring worked perfectly for me, and so I hope this Summer one will too..

Couple of note worthy points:

My number at present is 34 pieces. I may add or subtract as needed. Being summer I may need a couple more vest tops, as delightfully hot and sweaty Rachel may need to change. There are also two things I couldn’t get before publishing this: A denim blue skirt and a black strappy dress. Both top of my list, but will see if I can make do without as haven’t found any that I really love enough, and like i said, time is ticking on. I’m aiming to not go any higher than 38 pieces. I shall keep you posted of any additions with the aim for total transparency.
**EDIT.. 4 pieces found and added in** see below.. CURRENT NUMBER 38

*I haven’t included shoes or accessories in this capsule (I included shoes in my Spring Capsule), more for the fact I didn’t really think much about shoes when incorporating the pieces. I’m a pretty standard shoe gal, love me some sneakers and live in sandals come summer. But I like to have my options open for whatever event will happen, it could be the park with the kids or out for lunch, or even rainy one day then blazing sun the next. So yes, shoes; I am allowing myself to wear whatever. I have plenty so won’t necessarily be shopping for any (I am desperate for a black pair of flat sandals.. but my current ones are so lovely i just can’t quit them yet and forego the comfy zone, but man are they worn.)

*I have a rain jacket that I will keep on the sidelines and hope i don’t need it.

* Not including Dog walking, hiking, fitness wears.

*A lot of the items below are not the exact same as what i have. Lots of pieces in my capsule are items I’ve had for a while, whether that be a couple of years or just from my Spring capsule. I like to use what I have as much as possible, so the items below are either the exact or as similar as i can find.

This looks good! I love the floral pinafore dress, and the patchwork top.
I have 37 in my capsule and there are bits I'm still to wear (my summer capsule kicks off in July).
Having read this I'm eager to start thinking about mine. I find having a capsule really freeing, not that it's stopped me shopping as much as I'd hoped but maybe in time I'll see a difference.
Fingers crossed for a fabulous summer!

It is really freeing isn't it! that's one of the things i truly love about it. I am terrible at making decisions and when i have an abundance of clothes it really is self induced complications. After having a think and a look through my storage i just added in 3 items so i too am on 37,and pretty happy with them all. Now I'm done i finally feel excited about making different combinations out of them. Do you feel apprehensive about your summer capsule as there is a lot less layering and outfit making as such in summer.
Can't wait to see yours! Oh and yes.. currently have everything crossed for lovely summery weather!XX

Thanks, I really enjoyed that read. In the last month I've completely cleared my wardrobe and created a summer capsule wardrobe. Some pieces will take me into winter such as denins. It's so nice to know everything is working together and finally at 36 yes old I feel I have a look or Identity and a style of dressing. I plan staples for my wardrobe rather than randomly wandering through shops buying willy Nilly and nothing works together.

Well done Emma!Clearing out and starting is a truly liberating experience. I love how freeing it is, and it really does help to conquer ones own style. I am the same, i have dabbled with everything from retro vintage to modern fashion, at 31 i am finally happy with my own style and feel comfy.. tis a good feeling. I plan staples too, i find it helps to cement everything together that way your not left aimlessly trying to make outfits. I have lots of denim and lots of plain white tops.. i guess at heart im a jeans and tee kinda gal haha!
Thanks so much for stopping by

I am so looking forward to seeing you style these pieces! My favourite has to be the khaki trousers, need to get myself some for this summer. Jane X

Its a wonderful feeling to work from a carefully selected wardrobe. Its fun and freeing all at the same time.. i reckon you would totally rock a capsule wardrobe.. i can't recommend it enough xx

I've loved reading your capsule posts. This looks like far too few tops to me – I'm in Scotland and the camis would be under-layers, not for actually wearing!

    • June 8, 2016 / 1:43 pm

I am worried about my top situation, but lately the weather has been glorious here in wales( shocker i know!!) But if i need to add some in , i can.Totally know what you mean about the cami's, i did that in winter here! They're great little light layers. Plus i have some great jackets and cardi's at least.. they're always fun haha!

Love this post – wardrobe looks great. Whereabouts is the red t-shirt dress from please? xxx

I'm far too indecisive to commit to a capsule wardrobe, even though in theory I probably wear the same few basics when I'm at home. To tackle my holiday sin of packing too many clothes and accessories I started making a list of what I took and ticking what I wore and didn't. I've found it works because I tend to go to the same places (Paris in Spring, my dad's in Brittany during the Summer hols and if I'm lucky a beach holiday in Autumn) on a regular basis. I've got a couple of trips planned to places I haven't been to before so that might present a challenge – one is a weekend in Madrid with only hand luggage!
