Thoughts and Plans

It is certainly feels autumnal around here of late, chilly weather and unfortunately lots of rain. Thats the only problem with autumn/winter here in the UK, rain in abundance…sheesh.. !
But with rainy days come duvet days and hot chocolates and tights and wooly cardigans 🙂 that i am most definitely on-board with.
When each new season begins it gets me thinking about what i would like to do in the coming months, what plans i want to lay down and where i would like this season to lead. I don’t know, maybe its the rainy days making me a little introspective, but its good. in a few months i will be 29!! (uhmagod)

So it got me thinking, with my little boy starting school, i feel like i physically miss him each day. I really want to give him a wonderful treat. Hubs and i talked about it and thought how wonderful it would be to take him to Disneyland. The thought of seeing his little face when he sees Buzz Lightyear and Mickey Mouse makes me want to save every penny i have to take him to that magical place. Its not something we really can afford in our normal budget but here’s my plan..

a. Shop Less… this needs to be for reals… i shop waaay to much and need very little in the clothing department.
b. Ebay..all clothes that no longer fit/don’t get worn. I may even do a blog sale again if anyone’s interested, all money can then go in to our Disney fund
c.Sell Games/Cds/DVDS/Computers/ Hubs has SO many that he no longer use, hes a major techie geek so we have lots of old pc’s and laptops etc that arent needed and we dont use, also all our cd’s/dvd’s are on hardrives or digitally these days, we dont need so many of them.
This is a seriously great way to make some extra £££.
d. Sell a kidney.. ummm this may be a last resort… we’ll see, haha
Do you have any great money making ideas or saving ideas for a very special fund?

I seriously need to work on the whole shop less thing, i bought this dress last week in Matalan. Its like the perfect transitional dress, and i can see me wearing it with tights and chunky cardigans through winter, but now i was channelling this look. I am loving the colours, the burgandy is such a great colour and paisley is one of my favourite prints, i had been looking for a dress like this for months! Pleased as punch with it. But more shopping rachel!!!

Have you ever gone on a no spend?

Boots, Hat,Dress & Bag: Matalan

Jacket: F&F

So cool! I knew (this is a compliment, really to both of us) this was inspired from seeing my pin! So honored. You look great!

I have tried to do the whole no shopping thing before but it usually ends up in a binge shop (ie total disaster). I find just taking the time to think more about purchases and shop less at cheapie stores (because shopping there frequently adds up!) helps…

    Oh Rachel –
I have tried to hard to do a no-spend month. My hubs would prefer me to do a no-spend year! It is so, so hard!!! I love shopping and I find I do even more of it when I am feeling unhappy, which is horribly for the impulse buying! Let me know if and how you are successful! I am rooting for you dear!

I'm on a permanent no spend. Started it 2.5 yrs ago when my daughter was born so I could be a stay at home mom. These days my only clothing allowance comes from birthdays & Christmas. It's hard. But worth it to stay home with the kiddos.

Ugh! I know the shop-too-much feeling all too well. I've been a bit of a glutton lately; winter hoarding syndrome, perhaps? But I am now on spending lockdown. I did invest in a new lens for my camera – which I justified quite well to myself before hitting that "purchase" button. With Christmas season coming faster than we realize, I have vowed to not purchase another item for myself until after the holidays. You'll love Disney. Are you going to California or Florida, or one of the European locations?

  7. September 17, 2013 / 5:35 am

I hope you manage to save enough money. It's hard to not buy clothes but I'm sure the thought of a holiday Will help you.
I love this dress, the length and the colour are perfect. Berry colours are one of my favourites for autumn/winter.
I now have a new blog and I'd love you to take a look……
    Thank you xxx

We took a big vacation over the summer–a trip overseas to see my family–we mostly saved by not shopping at all for anything unnecessary and really limiting going out to eat. My husband also worked a couple overtime shifts, which is something that his job allows that's really nice when trying to save up. Doesn't help for salaried positions, though!

  9. September 17, 2013 / 1:32 pm

The shopping thing – yea, it's tough. I think it's sort of like managing what you eat, in that it's ok to have a treat every so often. I've found that implementing a sort of reward system works quite well, in that if I budget carefully for 3 weeks, say, I'll allow myself a purchase in the 4th week. It also helps to have good thrift stores around to indulge the shopping habit without dropping wads of cash 🙂

ps. you look LOVELY! Burgundy is a wonderful colour on you, really suits you! x

Rachel you always look so elegant, I'm on a saving spree as I have NY too book in October and want plenty of spending money for when I go at Easter. No good doing it half-heartedly! It's not going bad but I know I could be doing better. I need to cut down on eating out so much – working in London is harming my bank balance!

  11. September 17, 2013 / 6:29 pm

I love your dress and it really is perfect for autumn. I'm pregnant and trying to save for baby stuff and so I have some money whilst on maternity leave for a year but its so hard when I barely have any clothes that fit and have the perfect excuse to buy more. I've been selling loads on eBay in an attempt to make money and empty the room that is going to be the nursery and I've made quite a bit this month. I just need to stop buying clothes and going for meals out! X

  12. September 18, 2013 / 10:58 am

Your hair looks fantastic at the moment Rachel!! Good luck with the saving. What a fantastic holiday it'll be 🙂 x

  13. September 18, 2013 / 9:07 pm

I have lived half pf my life in USA and I have never been to Disney World but it is a dream – especially to take my little girl there when she grows up a little. I think shopping less and especially selling those Electronics on EBay sounds like a great plan.

I would have purchased this Dress too. It is perfect for Fall. You styled it so well with the Hat & Booties and that Gorgeous Quilted Leather Jacket. I am in love. =)

  14. September 18, 2013 / 10:17 pm

Love the dress, it's so perfectly fall 🙂 Disney Land would be so much fun for your family, I hope you can reach your goal to go!

  15. September 19, 2013 / 12:08 pm

This dress is gorgeous! I love the idea of saving some extra pennies, I find saving for something special (which you are) helps with motivation as otherwise you can keep pushing the deadline back!

Those boots are really nice… I like the fringe detail. And yes, good luck with saving.

  18. September 19, 2013 / 5:50 pm

Adorable hat, bomber and booties. Oh and …the dress is great too. Well, I guess I love the entire thing because the purse is awesome, too. hahahaha See you tomorrow.

  20. September 19, 2013 / 8:05 pm

I love your whole outfit and particularly the hat. I am not good with money saving tips as this is a weak point of my own!! x

  21. September 19, 2013 / 9:03 pm

You look absolutely gorgeous. Great and beautiful outfit. I know the shop too much feeling. Best cure? Don't shop! I mean it. I am not to shop any clothes at all until the end of the year. Up to now I keep my promise, tho. Just give it a try Rachel, it works.

    have a lovely day

  22. September 20, 2013 / 1:43 am

oh Rachel, i can see the street is rain coated but the sun did come out and what a spectacular shoot you made in those moments! love this look, sort of boho chic meets moto swag. awesome is what!

i'm actually looking forward to tight time again, these legs of mine are in need of coverage – aka "no tan time this summer left me white as a sheet!" eeps 😉 i think your plan for Disneyland sounds amazing, with the exception of plan D…dun, dun dun! omg, no girl! but, the intention behind your no-spend momentum should be building up speed as i type cos it's perhaps the very best reason in the whole world! what a great Mom you are, no matter what…it's always the ways in which you wish happiness for your children that means the most. fingers crossed for you all that this plan works out! xo ♥

  23. September 20, 2013 / 4:07 pm

That dress is gorgeous!! And the booties are so perfect with it. you look beautiful!
It's SO hard not to shop…I've been doing terrible with it lately! Haha. But that is one awesome goal to motivate you! I LOVE Disneyland and it's even more magical when you're a kid 🙂 Neo would be in Heaven! You've got some great ideas on how to earn the money too, I think a blog sale would be awesome.

  24. September 24, 2013 / 11:54 pm

This is such a fantastic autumn outfit!

Oh, I hope you make it to Disney. Saving can be hard, but with a goal like that, I bet it is a bit easier.
