Confessions From a Style Blogger #1 ( & Passion4Fashion Linkup)

I wanted to start a fun series of confessions. Honest little anecdotes from me that are really all about keeping it  real. In the social media led world we are so easily sucked in  the land of forever wanting .. Wanting to be thinner, richer, have a bigger house, have a better wardrobe, to portray that perfect life.
This is me calling perfection out. I am so far removed from perfection it is actually hilarious.
I am also so not a typical Style blogger it is also absolutely ridiculous, take last week, i fell over walking my dogs and actually bruised my arse. I had to walk back to my house with a soaking wet bum and walking like i'd had an accident in the underwear department. I looked like an incontinent crazy person.
So this I hope will be a glorious warts and all post, proving its still great to be you in a world where we are constantly bombarded with perfection.

1. I haven't worn mascara in about a week.. partly because i can't be bothered to take it off at night time, partly because i'm enjyoing the fresher faced look.

2. I've returned to my brunette ways and i'm really pleased! My husband and kids however are gutted i lost my super hero streak... major loss on the cool mum points.

3. I'm 10lbs heavier than this time last year but i have absolutely no inclination to do anything about it.  I'm enjoying healthy foods, and i love walking my dogs but i just really don't want to diet or exercise in a gym.. so i'm not going to.

4. I've ditched the bra.. I know, possible TMI, but honestly i've never felt so liberated. See, here's the thing, I have tiny boobs and for years and years i've covered those puppies in padding just to give me more shape, to conform, to hide them away and to look socially acceptable. But i am done with it. This is actually a topic I'm going to go in to more next week, but yeh at 32 i'm finally accepting my body and actually being ok with it!

5. I've been fake tanning with one of those gradual build up tanners, I'm kinda liking it but i'm also terrible at it, what you can't see in these photos is the mahoosive streak down the back of one leg.. lush.

6. I took these pics last night after wearing this outfit to the vets. I was having a "I have nothing to wear in this gorgeous hot weather" moment so just threw this on. Its really comfy on and a delight to wear, just so easy, but once at the vets i had the comment of "Oh, you look nice, where are you off to dressed like that?" Blatantly all i was doing was sitting in the vets in a nice frock. I actually lied and said "Oh just out for dinner" instead of saying " This is just how i dress to go to my dogs vet appointment.. I'm sorry, is this not appropriate?"

And finally

7. I bought these shoes and i really love them, for a day to evening shoe, or even a day to vet appointment shoe they're great. However the first few times of wearing they rubbed my big toes so much i got home kicked one off which such vigour it flew off my foot and hit the dog (not the reason the dog was at the vets btw.. she was fine) I since started using some foot lube (i shit you not) and its really helped wear these bad boys in.

  2. That is a lovely dress - I like the red shoes with it for a pop of colour and the fun printed clutch! :) Shame that you got that comment at the vets though! Sometimes I do feel a dress is a little 'dressier' than jeans but I've never had anyone call me out like that and made me feel uncomfortable.

Thank you for the link up!

Hope you have a great weekend ahead of you! :)

    1. Thanks Mica, to be honest im used to being looked at like im more dressier than most, as i live in a real casual town, but it just made me giggle that she thought i was so formal when all i felt was super comfy in a stretchy dress, ha! Wishing you a lovely week x x

  3. I've ditched the bra years ago ;-) Only wearing one for some outfits (like sheer tops), so it's actually more often a bralette rather than a bra. Then again, I have fairly tiny breasts as well. Never heard about foot lube, but hey you definitely got me curious now =p

    1. YAY thats brilliant news! Well done you on ditching the bra, its so empowering isnt it?! I shall be doing a full blog post on it this wednesday as i don't think its talked about openly enough. And foot lube is brilliant, its an anti blister stick which you rub on the area, it really helped!
      Wishing you a wonderful week x x

  4. Good for you Rachel, you look lovely! The red shoes and leopard print clutch look fab with the black dress. I need to get some of that foot lube because I'm always getting sore toes. I'm crap at applying fake tan - better than I used to be but I still end up with streaks and patches.

    1. haha the foot lube has everyone curious.. It was called an anti blister foot stick, but it definitely helped (picked it up from boots by the blister plaster section). And yes patches and streaks seem to be the only way i can get a tan, but like you im a little better than i used to be. Just wish there was a tan eraser!

    1. I hear that a lot from bigger breasted ladies, and it is all down to comfort isn't it. Whether that be comfort to go public without one or comfort in the support, its all up to the lady isnt it. For me bras dont really do anything so it just seems a pointless to wear something that isn't really nice to wear? Have you ever considered ditching it as and experimenting for a week? Rxx

  7. Oh, you crack me up Rachel!!
I confess that I've given up on the tanning--sunless or real! I know I probably have the whitest legs of any fashion blogger, but I'm trying to embrace my natural color. Just like I'm not covering up my grey hair (yet!!)

Embracing your natural colour is just amazing, i bow down to you oh pale and beautiful one!!XX

What a fun post! Gradual sunless tanner is so great in theory, except for the spots where I totally mess up...

  12. I love that you have gone without mascara or a bra. That is amazing. I wish I could do that, but I am not sure people around me would approve. Love this understated look. Simple and chic and your shoes are fabulous!

    1. Well.. approval and being out in publis was my first worry, but honestly? No one cared, no one stares and it is very liberating. I am doing a whole blog post about it this wednesday, but yes why entrap our boobs in to uncimfy contraptions when we needn't? The ebst thing to do is try it for a day, a week and you soon see that
      a. it is supremely comfy
      and
      b. Nobody cares

  13. Lol! This cracks me up as I sit here in my shorts and tee shirt that I fell asleep in last night...and in all likelihood will wear all day today! On my off days, and I've had about a 10 day run of them since my surgery, I'm a no makeup, pj's all day, rat's nest hair kinda girl. And I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

  15. Blogging and trying to keep up with the Joneses is pretty futile. Thanks for helping keep things grounded in reality. I'm happy to hear you are embracing your breasts. I wish I could do the same for mine, only I have the opposite problem. Being able to not wear a bra in public would be like a dream come true.

    1. It is futile isn't it! But some can get so lost in that thought of not being good enough to the perfection that is constantly presented to them, i have been swallowed up with it a few times and it only leads to bad places.
Thank you for the braless encouragment too, it feels splendid to go bra free. I have had a lot of larger breasted ladies say the same thing and i say go for it regardless, as long as you're comfy, try it! The more we accept our own magnificent bodies the more we normalise them being just as they are! (of course if you wear one for comfort than thats totally understandable, but i've never met a woman who doesn't love that bra off at the end of the day feeling) x x

  16. Adore this honest post (you know I'm a fan of honest babe)-you look AMAZING, super stunning. I adore the dress and the heels. Find me some foot lube please bahaha and I am so jealous you can let the puppies go free, I am so sick of big boobs and would love smaller boys! Argh. This is one of my favourite posts on the internet ever. You are your superpower, blond streak or not. Love ya and excited to catch up next week xxx

    1. Yay thanks sweetheart! I encourage you to let those puppies free! You have a fantastic body and you should feel free to not wear a bra as often as you like. Granted if its for comfort you wear one then i understand that from a support point of view, but otherwise free those bad boys. The more we accept our own magnificent bodies the more we normalise them being just as they are! (of course if you wear one for comfort than that's totally understandable, but i've never met a woman who doesn't love that bra off at the end of the day feeling, why not have the feeling all day long) x x

  18. The whole bra thing is really on my mind now that the hot weather is back. I'm not small - at all - and the bras they make for women with breasts my size are tortuous in the summer: huge, pinching, rib-crushing, boned, sweaty, padded... more like armour than a bra. Trying to find a simple, comfortable bra for summer when you're a 38DD is impossible. Why do I feel the need to protect the world from my breasts? They're quite lovely, actually, and I'm really starting to resent that it's considered inappropriate for large breasted women to go braless, as if we're somehow more sexual just because we're larger. Argh! The least they could do, then, is make better summer bras for us.

    Okay, rant over.

    1. Yes charlotte! You absolutely spot on. Im doing a whole blog on this on wednesday so i do hope you'll come back for a read! The more we accept our own magnificent bodies the more we normalise them being just as they are! Why should we have to encase them in such uncomfy contraptions?? It just doesnt seem right!

  20. Rachel, you look fabulous in this dress and those shoes are amazing! Good for you for ditching the bra! I wish I could do the same, but I would trip over my boobs if I didn't have something holding them up! Hahaha. And I love that you wore that to the vet. It is totally appropriate to look great wherever you go. You should see the looks I get every day when I am completely dressed up just to take my kids to school. I feel fabulous doing it so let 'em stare! Ha! Have a great weekend.

    1. Aw thanks shelbee! Bras are totally personal to the owner, i know some ladies who hate the idea, but i hate the thought of ladies having to wear them because society says we must, to conform and keep the breasts under lock and key, dont talk about them or god forbid show their form. If you feel comfy without, then why not eh? But if you want to wear it as you feel more comfy then do that. And yes i am so with you on the funny looks, i live in a small very casual attired town, so side looks are the norm, however, like you, i love to feel fabulous and this is all part of who i am so i just big fat do it anyway haha! I love that you do to!XX
