Transitional dressing

Even though we are well and truly in to Spring, here in the UK it's still pretty darn chilly most days. And, even though i know it won't always be cold and *hopefully* the sun and warmth will grace us here, I'm finding myself still looking for quality knitwear. One of the things i realised from the spending ban was what i was missing in my current wardrobe. Transitional great quality items like this sweater from Repeat seems like the perfect piece to add to my wardrobe.

You see the way i see it, being British means your knitwear will work hard for you throughout the year, plus buying good quality will mean price per wear is low. Win win.
I could see me wearing this beuatiful sweater all year round, right now i would pair it with boyfriend jeans and bright pumps, adding a scarf and statement earrings to finish.
Summer, even when it does warm up the evening still cool off remarkably, having a sweater to throw on after a day in the sun on the beach would be perfect. Just add your cut off denim shorts, some lovely tan wedges, a straw hat and shades and your summer day to night look is complete.
Autumn would see me pair this with autumnal coloured jeans and ankle boots, whole winter would be all about the red coat and black skirt with black knee hight boots and thick tights.
1 sweater, all seasons covered. I just love simplifying things!

Do you have pieces that work all round for you?

Mint, Nude and Cupcake Jeans (Yep, cupcake is a colour)

Today i am dressing for Spring regardless of the fact its grey and rainy and cold, thank god for dreamy pastel knitwear like this super old minty sweater. I have had this about 3 years and hardly ever wear it, shame on me! But today was it's day, keeping me warm against the chilly weather but remaining still lovely and colourful.
And these jeans are juuusstt dreamy, they are from the lovely people at Great Plains who recently allowed me to pick a piece from their spring collection, i went for these wonderful jeans in the colour cupcake! how cool is that? The colour cupcake is so yummy i could literally eat it, with faded edges, vibrant colour and lots of stretch these are my new favourite jeans and are packed to come with us on our little family holiday this week to Cornwall.. i can't wait!
Have you seen the gorgeous new collection at Great Plains, I'm crushing on the Tuscany Dress, can you imagine this dress in summer, sunglasses on, cocktail in hand... dreamy!

Cupcake Jeans: c/o Great Plains
Mint Sweater: F&F (very old)
Bow Trench: Next (very old)
Mint Bag: Modcloth (old)
Nude Shoes: c/o Lotus

So whats your thoughts on coloured jeans? Do you love or loathe? And what colours are you craving? I am after a parma violet/lilac pair next! I find they are perfect for British springs..cold yet still colourful!

Sidenote: My feet have been a little out of action lately after a blister turned naassty and went all infected on me from wearing-in some pretty new shoes (#fbloggerproblems...jeez!) i'm on antibiotics and it looks like they don't have to amputate(lol)
So here just put these nude heels on for photos, i have been a flipflop walking disaster for 4days! I have just discovered blister plasters too (tmi, teehee ) so they are helping to ease myself back in to full on actual shoes.
But fellow #fbloggers let this be a a lesson i have learned for us all;
Do not go for a 4 mile walk in pretty new shoes.

Aztec Trousers and Clashing Colours & Passion For Fashion Link Up!!

Remember my first round with relaxed trousers? i was pretty convinced that they weren't for me and these hips right here. But, never one to be defeated easily i have gone and tried this style again. When i saw these tribal print relaxed jogger i took them to the changing room to first try them on. I instantly loved them (again, the comfort people...they are SO comfy!) and so they came home for me for fancy-joggers take two.
I started with a cream top, which was nice and all but i wanted a bit more colour. So when Clarks kindly let me choose a pair of they're lovely shoes, i thought i'd pack a punch with these beauties and clash it up with a bit of orange. I have always loved Clarks shoes and had a tough time deciding which pair to get, i went for a lovely pair of flats as it seems i lack some more sensible shoes lately and as we are off to Cornwall with lots of walking next week funky flats seemed the best option. Who said flats have to be boring? Not Clarks that's for sure ;)
My darling husband however was not taken by this outfit---at all (man repellent possibly?)I kept teasing him and striking a hammer time pose just to make matters worse. He actually enquired as to if i was going out in these pyjama like trousers, to which i walked my bum out the door so he could see that yep, i meant business...in pyjamas.

Aztec Trousers: New Look
Orange Vest: F&F
Fossil Bag: c/o McArthur Glen
Lime Purse: c/o Clarks

Tell me, do you ever wear anything that your husband, partner, significant other really doesn't like?
Do you wear it anyway or change?
Please let me know in the comments, from a social inquisitive point of view i am very intrigued!

#Colourmehappy with McArthurGlen

In this household McArthurGlen is a well known name, we have shopped there year upon year for all of the family, always coming away with full bags bulging with bargains and smiley faces. Yep, we love a nice bargain, but then who doesn't when there's over 250 brands including All Saints, Church’s, Ted Baker, Reiss, French Connection, Jaeger, Kurt Geiger, Lulu Guinness and Nicole Farhi offering year-round savings of up to 60%.
So when the lovely folks of McArthurGlen contacted me to tell me about their fantastic #colourmehappy campaign to launch the new season accessories, i thanked the wonderful clothing Gods and jumped at the chance!
A week later the most wonderful pink box of goodies literally landed on my doorstep including Kurt Geiger cobalt blue heels and a beautiful orange Fossil bag.. I had died and gone to accessories heaven.
Colour Me Happy is something i can completely get on board with, if you've been reading RTH just a small while, you will know i love to wear colour. I enjoy mixing colours and experimenting with different bright and cheerful combo's. Colourful outfits really do make me happy.
So, the challenge? Make 3 outfits with the beautiful accessories.
After much over-thinking and umming and ahhing I decided i wanted to show the bag and shoes in 3 different ways; with a dress, trousers and a skirt.
So here are my 3 looks

Look One:
Dress

Here i wanted to mix in a green dress with the blue shoes and orange bag.. A current fave colour combination. I wore the bag loosely on the shoulder, perfect for a meal date.

Look two:
Trousers (Jeans)

I knew i wanted to mix in some yellow somewhere and i thought a nice smart-casual look with my patch jeans and a pastel yellow knit felt colourful and spring-esque, all tied up with a vintage headscarf.
I also wore the Fossil bag across body, which i love to wear it this way, especially when my hands are full(with more shopping bags wahaha). This outfit was perfect for lunch and shopping with the bestie.

Look three:
Skirt & Blazer

The colour combo here was teal, navy and of course orange. I used the bag with-out the strap here like a clutch and added in a statement necklace, the leopard print little belt and some cats eye shape sunglasses for a bit of glam, perfect for a night out with cocktails!:)

So there we have it. 2 accessories, 3 looks!
I can't wait to get even more wear out of these beautiful pieces.
Which is your favourite?
And do you have any great remix ideas for them?

Big thank you to McArthurGlen, it's been an absolute privilege!

S/S'14 Key Trends: Tropical Print, Girlfriend Jeans and Neon

As new trends roll in each season I enjoy seeing what i can make work for me and things that i will pass on. I can be quite fickle with fashion, which is something I'm trying to overcome and become a more sensible shopper only purchasing things that i love and will wear on repeat.
This outfit consists of new 'on trend' items that have been on constant rotation for me for the past couple of months.
The palm print relaxed blazer has hardly left my back since hubby dearest bought it for me for our anniversary. I love its easy-going structure and relaxed tailored vibe.
The Girlfriend jeans (the River Island Eva in this case) are set to take over from the Boyfriend jeans, with a little less slouch but still super comfy. I love an ankle grazer length, i think to show a little ankle is so elegant and it highlights your shoes wonderfully.
Talking of shoes, these neon beauties are from F&F and they are uh-mazing! I really REALLY fancy the matching neon bag to go with them to finish of my look. Not to mention adding a great punch of colour to any outfit. I'm in neon Love!
Funny when my spending ban ended i wanted to purchase some pastels, turns out none took my fancy and all i've been buying is neon bright.. I guess that says a lot about me, give me bright's any day :)
And there we have it, me dabbling with some key spring/summer '14 trends.
What d'you think?

Are you dabbling with an new trends?

Aztec Dress with Neon Orange (& Passion for Fashion Linkup!)

F&F recently let us #Frockswapuk girlies pick out an outfit each to do the rounds amongst the four of us. This Aztec Dress was my choice. I had had my eye on it since it had hit the website (it also comes in amoto style jacket and skirt version too) as it is just my style in every way possible, the colours, the cut the print...perfection! It has a slight lantern fit which was nicer than i expected too, giving it a fuller skirt which was lovely. Its just gone on half price sale too (grab yourself a bargain ladies), the fabric is thick making it actually feel rather expensive, well worth £17 on sale i'd say!
I felt myself just going for easy styling with my trusty cut-out boots, neon bag (also F&F) and Hush little jacket. All finished off with a pop of coral with statement earrings. When i get this dress back from doing the rounds, i can't wait to wear it out again, i think it will be my go-to dress for date nights with the hubby!

My journey through 100 days of no shopping

Tuesday marked the wondrous ending of my self inflicted 100 day shopping ban.
The journey has actually been a very enlightening experience, more so than i ever envisaged way back on 6th January when it all began.
If you want to know why i started, well that's quite simple; I bought way to many clothes mostly, i shopped way to much and actually needed very little. You see, blogging your outfits can do that to you, you feel the constant need to buy more and continually post new items for fresh looks. But in actual real life, i really didn't need any more clothes.
Having never gone longer than about 3 weeks without shopping for clothes, the idea of going 100 days seemed daunting, but like something i should be able to achieve for my wardrobe and for my sanity.
So how did it go?
This is where i expected to say "OMG it was horrendous, i wanted to cave and shop, i wanted to buy lots and it was so unfair that i couldn't"
When in reality it wasn't like that at all.
Firstly it's worth noting, that i have been incredibly lucky. Over the past few months, lots of wonderful brands have sent me lovely pieces to wear, so the craving was curbed slightly by having these nice new things, also having the #frockswapuk girls to swap with and have a constant rotation of new things popping through the letter box was a huge help.
But what i didn't do was shop. And that was missed, 'cos i actually really enjoy shopping.
What I discovered was that i like to shop when i'm feeling a bit down, shopping is a comforter to me, a pick me up or even a little pat on the back if i'm doing well, basically i used any reason.
I also discovered i shopped sales needlessly, sorting through page after page just because an email had popped up in my inbox to say there was the latest greatest sale and i just had to buy a bargain.
Don't get me wrong at first going cold turkey was hard, i had major cravings, but like any addiction i just had to break the habit.
As time went on it actually got easier, a new habit was formed of not shopping and that became the norm.
Towards the end i definitely felt like i needed to add a few new things to my wardrobe, just simple pieces that i had noticed i was missing from day to day life. Things such as new jeans and classic tshirts but nothing major. I also wanted to add in a few new on-trend pastel colours as i have none.
But now i am able to shop, something has happened, i feel weird actually buying things (its the new habit that's formed)
For the last 100 days i saved at least £1 a day, and when i cashed it all in I had actually saved over £130 to shop with, which felt fab to see i had accumulated that money and to know i could guilt free shop having saved a mere quid a day.
Problem was, i wasn't really loving anything. Don't get me wrong i've only tried a few of the old haunts such as Primark and New Look, but in general i haven't found anything that i really love, and that seems to be my new requirement for shopping and buying. If i love it, then it gets to come home with me. If not, then it stays. I'm apparently a lot more cut throat with clothes.
You may have seen this haul yesterday on Instagram from my Primark trip, but having gotten it home, i've decided to take most of it back on Monday when i'm next in town. Again i just don't love much of it.
So far the pieces i have liked that i've bought and will be keepers are; a pink hoodie (bizarre i know, not really a #fblogger piece but hey i love it!) and a pair of neon shoes which stole my shoe lovin' heart.
Apart form that, meh.. nothing to write home about, or blog about as the case may be.
Tomorrow i am on the look out for a great pair of summer light jeans, so far having looked in numerous places i've not found 'the one' but i'm sure they're out there somewhere.
I've also been looking for summer clothes as this time last year i was 2 stone heavier and basically have not a lot for the Spring/ summer.
Plus the whole style-volution I've had over the past year has made me look at clothes differently. My wardrobe is not longer 80% dresses, surprisingly dresses seem to be the last thing i look for lately, with jeans and blazers being top of my most wanted list.
But with going in to Summer i have a bit of a dilemma, what to buy, what to wear...any suggestions? Are you loving anything this season?
So there we have it, 100 days of no shopping in a nutshell.
I have to say i would actually do this again (i can't believe i actually just said that)! I would do it perhaps Aug/Sept time possibly and save on the run up to Christmas.
But for now, if you want me, i shall be perusing the jeans aisles trying to spend my little pot of saved gold ;-)

So over to you ladies, have you ever done a 100 day no spend? And if not have i convinced you that maybe it would be worth a shot?

Ps
A big thank you to my fellow no spenders LenaAshleahDonna and Debbie who were always there on Twitter for rants and wishlists
And also thank you to all of you who ahve given kind words of encouragement over the last 100 days. You guys are the loveliest readers a girl could wish for... i feel a thank-you giveaway is due ;)
