M&S Dress Remix (and Passion4fashion remix)

Carrying on from my my last post, here is my first remix of my S/S 14 Marks and Spencer pieces. I wanted to show the dress could be dressed up for drinks or for any kind of night out. Its  such a versatile piece that i feel i could literally take on the world in this lovely Statement Dress.

I added my bright pink coat (which incidentally is also from M&S about 5 years ago!) to bring a Spring feel, and so does the *ahem* bare legs, which- fyi i have flesh colour tights on..i'm not that brave. If only it were actually bare leg weather, le sigh..
I'm also really digging my statement belt right now, it brings in the tunic dress which in my eyes, makes it feel a little dressier. The only thing i forgot (which i was kicking myself for!!) was some on trend big statement earrings (like maybe these and also these too).
That would have completed my night-out look perfectly.

I'm thinking it would also look amazing over some black jeans a la Catherine, what d'you think?
How would you remix this dress?

Marks & Spencer Spring Collection: Styled

Following on from the Marks and Spencer Styleboard post on Monday here i bring to you a real life mannequin (me!) styling the aforementioned Spring pieces i chose.
I always love how bloggers, magazines/ fashion shoots bring clothes to life.
I like to see movement and individuals styling pieces, (probably why i love the whole blogging community so much) it enables me to envisage how i would wear/style it.
After spending a leetle bit too long unleashing my inner stylist with the
Marks And Spencer Styleboards, i then got to try my hand at styling the pieces in real life.

Staying pretty true to my boards i first styled all the pieces together. I wanted to be able to create a whole coherent outfit and then have offshoots from there, with remixes for the dress and coat and lots of wear for the shoes and bag.
The shoes are fabulously comfortable (i love that in a new shoe!!) with their cute ankle strap and
on-trend block heel, these lovelies pumps have hardly left my feet since the day they arrived. They just 'go' with everything.
I LOVE  animal print, it acts as a great neutral, but in actual fact you are adding interest with a bit of pattern mixing. (3's up here: Stripes, subtle chevron with the Herringbone coat and animal print with the shoes! triple score ;-)
This outfit ticks lots of Spring style boxes; patterns, textures and bright colour pops.
And on top of all that style talk, i just really really love it. I can't remember the last time an outfit stole my heart as much as this one. Tomorrow i have a day date with my son to the cinema and guess what i shall be wearing?! Yep, this whole ensemble..

The one thing I quickly wanted to touch on, because I couldn't not mention it as it was just so obvious when I received the pieces. The quality is outstanding. Hub's even commented on how luxurious the coat was when I put it on and I have to say I simply felt fantastic in each of the items. When i put the full outfit on, I felt wonderful, like I could take on the world, like my dress had in-built confidence.
Strange really, but I think a lot has to be said for quality products over the cheaper end of the market. You could literally feel the difference.

I shall be back on Friday with how i've remixed these pieces.
Have you bought any new Spring items yet? What are you crushing on for S/S '14?

All thanks to Marks and Spencer

Update: Half Way Through #100daynospend (!!)

Its official i am 50 days in to the self-inflicted 100 day no spend, so i thought i'd do a little half way update to let you know how i'm getting on.
First things first, i have not enjoyed this past 50 days per-se, however it has not been as difficult as i thought it would be.
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that i was finding it hard, which at that point was tough, it seems i have difficult times and plane sailing- easy going times, but mostly..it's actually ok.
I guess the main thing i have learnt is how fleeting feelings and cravings can be.
I was crushing on, like you wouldn't believe(!!), a light pink fluffy boyfriend style jacket, as seen on lots of bloggers at the moment.
I wanted it so badly, i pinned it on Pintrest, i sent links to the support group on twitter and i gazed lovingly at it in New Look.
As much as i craved it i haven't bought it (because of the no-spend) and it seems my life, the blog and me getting dressed every morning continues to go on...without the pink jacket. Its been a couple of weeks since i was craving it and each day i thought about my crush less and less until i realised, i didnt actually need that pink coat. As lovely as it is my life still continues to go on and my style isn't compromised by me not having it.
See, fleeting.

Secondly I've learnt so far is that i shop when i feel down. It's like a comforter to me a little pick me up when i feel down. Like i previously mentioned, i was having a rough week and normally in those times i would most definitely hit the shops and get myself a few bits that would momentarily make me happier, but again, that goes back to the fleeting thing, as any buzz is normally short lived and in actuality it is just another dress to add to the collection of many other dresses, or yet another unneeded scarf that will probably end up having very little wear, as after all i only have one neck.

Thirdly, as it is very much a hobby to me, i find myself with more time and just 'popping down to the shops' has become non-existent. Normally I could easily kill a couple of hours grabbing a starbucks and then wandering around the local shops, but with the no-spend there is no point (as previously mentioned). So i have extra time on my hands occasionally which is sometimes good sometimes bad. Its made me a little more of a hermit, which could also be to do with the terrible weather we've been having as shopping is a great rainy day activity with it being indoors and all. But i do find myself not getting up and out as quickly as i would have when the shops were beckoning. Plus i've drunk a lot less Starbucks.. (again my purse is pleased)

So that sounds all pretty positive in the whole non shopping thing, and i am so pleased with how well i have done thus far.
But
It doesn't totally negate from the fact that i do enjoy shopping. I love to find new pieces and integrating them in to my wardrobe, i love the buzz of wearing new items and getting compliments from nice people.
Shopping is my thing, its a pass time i thoroughly enjoy (It's like cardio with all that walking around laden with bags;) and, its also my me time.
I rarely shop with anyone else (other than my step daughter), its actually something i love to do on my own, just me and the shops.
I love taking my time perusing the rails, trying out shoes and weighing up bags.
That, i miss.
I miss walking around the shops and looking through the rails and admiring the mannequins and window displays. Of course i could still do that and i have on occasion with Mia, but the thought of not being able to buy anything is slightly dis-concerting to say the least.
Finding a hidden gem whilst scouring the rails is all part of the fun, and well lets face it, not being able to take home your new-found treasure is slightly like torture.
Recent research shows that in actual fact (like real science fact) women who shop are less likely to suffer serious depression. In accordance with sciencey people, the endorphins that are released when women shop and make purchases helps to overcome the stress and strain of day to day life.. this can only be a good thing, amiright?!
But just like the devil on once shoulder and the angel on the other, i go through the internal argument of 'Do you really need another dress?'
When does it become wasteful?
Being a 'Style Blogger' i feel i probably buy more clothes than a non-style blogger. The pressure i guess to keep things fresh and current, but remixing can make for great style too, which i have been embracing more. And, even with my hoards of clothes, i often go back to my tried and tested favourites anyway.
I do not pose to have the answers to these things, hell all i know is i miss shopping and the wonderful buzz that's goes with it.
So to summarize what i have learnt this past 50 days;
I can do without, all cravings pass and when i do shop then maybe i should be more aware of my purchases rather than that rash purchase where you find yourself stood at the checkout with another floral dress *ahem totally guilty*.
Perhaps when the next 50 days come to an end i will go forward purchasing less often, but more quality.
What are you're thoughts, do you love to shop or shop for essentials?

Ps. Random photos are just little tid-bits of life lately, 'cos lets face it a post with photos is always nicer than a big long rambly rant from me, yes?
If you've skipped the rambly bit here's the whole post in 3 words:
i miss shopping.
Simple.

Also, since the shopping ban i have re visted nail polishs and make up. I'm trying my hand at better makeup and love painting my nails (always have), so when in need and feeling desperate i've treated myself to a new nail colour.(Having said that not all the above polish's are new but some, like the baby blue, are)

Marks & Spencer Spring Style Edit

Changes of season in the fashion world are my favourite times. With the new Spring line recently landing at Marks & Spencer i had the privilege of choosing a few pieces and playing around with their extremely easy to use and FUN Style Boards.
The Style Boards enable you to make sets and create new looks all from the comfort of your computer;)
Needless to say i spent hours having fun on my style boards and Viewing the new Vogue Edit.
With my 'picks' i wanted t choose items that were going to be wearable in this non-spring time, but that could be carried through also. Lets face it, spring in the UK is normally a continuation of winter any-ways, but i wanted to at least feel a little Spring-esque  even in the cold.
My other final thought was remix-ability. This is something that since by spending ban commenced has been important to me. If i am adding items to my wardrobe i want them to multi-functional. Dressy and casual and everything in-between.
So here's what i chose.

Style Board One: The Pieces

This is the dress, coat, shoes and bag i have picked for my Spring Style Edit.
I have to be honest i am totally smitten with all of them.
They are just absolutely quintessential to my Spring remix clothing capsule.
Many an outfit can be made with these few items.

Style Board Two: The Dress Remix

This Beautiful Blush Pink Coat screams Spring to me, with its long-line on trend cut to its pretty pastel colouring, this coat is the epitome of Spring Fashion.
Here i've remixed the Bold Stripe dress and played on pattern and texture with the bag and the boots, all tied in with some silver accessories and some playful pink make-up.

Style Board Three: Mum-on-the-Run

This goes-with-everything coat, can be dressed up, or dressed it down;
either way it looks chic and pulled together.
This style board i nick named mum-on-the-run as it is something i would pull together for school runs, errands and general running about , whilst still remaining Spring stylish and chic. The red lipstick and nail polish adds easy-chic points.
And that equals one happy mamma!

So these are my Spring 2014 picks, what do you think?
Do you have a favourite?

Florals & Stripes (and Passion4Fashion Link Up!)

I have had this dress for over 3 years if i re-call correctly, but in all honesty i have hardly won it. Weirdly i find it hard to wear/remix. I don't really know why. It's a very comfy little number with some nice stripes but it just doesn't have the wow factor for me. I think i ask a lot of my clothes. Not every item is going to have the wow factor i guess, some items are just 'nice', and this dress is exactly that, nice.
So to give it a little more interest i've added in a bit of pattern mixing. The old tried and tested florals and stripes are definitely a favourite of mine. Its like they were made for each other, like peanut-butter and jam (yum), or gin and tonic (more yum), they just fit so well together like a marriage made in style heaven. To Top it all off i added my favourite brown jacket and suddenly i found myself liking this dress a whole lot more.

Blush Pink and Red

Apparently love was still int he air when i picked out this very valentines-esque pinky/red outfit. But who needs a hallmark holiday to wear pretty colours? Not me apparently;)
This blush pink jumper has seen a lot of wear on my back but not on the blog, its just one of those great 'on-trend' pieces that is easy throw on and easy to remix which makes it a constant go-to of mine lately. There was a time i would never ever have reached for a cropped style top (i blame my son for this, he left a disaster in the midriff area, but i shall forgive him as hes so darn cute and ya know, i made him an all;)  BUT the wonderful thing i love about fashion is how you make it work for you! By adding a long top and i was super happy to wear this cropped number, the layering look adds interest and allows me to try the cropped trend id avoided for so long. Win win.

Have you ever tried a trend that was previously off limits in your eyes? Did it work well for you to try something out of your comfort zone?
