Highlights of Gold

Sometimes all my brain can compute is a a simple dress.  Life lately is so busy i barely feel one day roll in to the next, it all kind of blurs in to one and i could not even tell you which day of the week i am on. I have just picked up an extra day in my work, which is good for many reasons, but it means another day in uniform and not getting to wear my own clothes and dream up outfits. But , such is life sometimes. Plus it should mean i won't need to shop, like, at all (ha.. i can but try right?!).

I've had this dress for a couple of months, i think i bought it in hope of reaching my target weight and feeling good enough to wear it. The target weight rolled round, but i still lacked the confidence to wear it. I don't do clingy very often at all, but i really wanted to push myself to try a style i wouldn't normally have gone for.  So one day last week, i was going for a coffee with hubs and i decided to push myself to wear this tight number. I love tan/creamy colours and black together, they seem to make a great combo. I just went really simple with the gold highlights in the bag, necklace and boots an i was good to go.

It did feel strange wearing something so, um, tight, im normally a pretty baggy or floaty dress/top kind of person, but i felt proud of myself for trying something different. Plus hubs loved it (haha, those men ay?!) I really like the idea of layering on a big thick knitted seater over it come winter or a shirt and biker jacket.

Do you ever push yourself out of your clothing comfort zone? Were you pleasantly surprised?

Inspired and Passion For Fashion Link up

Each week Lena and myself host Passion For Fashion, and each week i profess how inspired i am by all your wonderful outfits. And today the proof is in the pudding, or outfit post as it were.
I fell in love with this whole outfit when Catherine posted it, i gushed over it and pinned it. The lovely Catherine herself actually mentioned in the post that her outfit reminded her of me (such a lovely compliment) which is so funny as i totally loved her whole outfit and knew i had to re create, perhaps that wonderful lady knows me extremely well!! So here i am re creating an outfit that was inspired by one of our wonderful Passion For Fashion link ups (and a gorgeous lady she is too!)

I bought this dress when hubs and i went to cardiff one sunday. I had been cyber stalking it and then convinced hubs to buy it for me whilst we were there (plus Dotty P's had 20% off that weekend) and i have worn it  A LOT ever since. I like it thrown over leggings with black pumps as its quite short, and look forward t wearing it with boots and thick black tights come winter.
As for this weekend im working (bleugh) then treating myself to a little Outlet Shopping which i can not wait for!(I am in desperate need of some new jeans, i think i may try Gap)You all know me well enough to know i love a good bargain, and outlet shopping provides me with juuust that. I get my shopping fix, my bank balance doesn't suffer (as much) haha!(as you can see the no-spend is going real well...pahahah)

From day to night: How to get the look

Recently since Fashion week has been sweeping the cities i have been looking to update some of my beauty and hair regimes. Today i have the pleasure of bringing some tips in association with Beauty recommends that i have found super super helpful.

Whether it is just another day in the office or a night out with friends, keeping up appearances can be easy once you know the secrets. Try some simple ideas to keep you looking fresh and radiant.

Backstage hair tips

When drying hair, always work in small sections as this gives you more control and prevents tangling. Make sure each section is dry before moving onto the next as if it is still a little damp, that’s when frizz takes over.

If you are going out and need to get ready quickly, try parting your hair to the side and pinning back with an easy clip. At times, something simple like a traditional ponytail or messy bun with pretty accessories can make a big statement. Even an effortless half up half down look with sparkling earrings can give an evening look the glam factor.

It needn’t be complex; for example it doesn’t matter if bits of your hair are loose or dangling as it is stylish to have hair undone. That way, your hair works with any dress or even jeans and a beautiful top. Beauty Recommended has some great ideas for simple hairstyles that are hot on every celebrity and fashionista’s lips.

Eye make-up
Everyone talks about the eyes, from the smoky effect to bold statement eyeliner, but knowing when to use what style is key. This is where eye make up tips come in handy, so follow these golden rules!

Are you wondering how to emphasise your eyes in a natural-looking and easy way? Always use a volumising mascara to illuminate and widen your eyes, but don’t forget to curl lashes beforehand! And for the evening, try false lashes for a more glamorous and fuller appearance.

When applying shadow to your lids, blend blend blend – the last thing you want are noticeable lines. For a swift transition from day to night, adding a glitter shimmer onto your eyelids provides a party look that is not too young.

The finishing touches

Black, white and navy may be safe tones to dress in, but they don’t ‘pop’ and give an outfit the zing that puts you in the spotlight on a night out. If you wear a neutral base colour, spruce it up with a bright bag or bold shoes. This is a great idea if you’re leaving work and going straight out for a drink. Wearing a vibrant bag and loosening your hair are more simple ways to convert your style.

(sexy) Stiletto's

Hi Guys

Just a quick outfit post from me today, this was supposed to be posted, oh about 10 hours ago.. Seriously what is up with time lately. I thought once Neo had started school that i would be twiddling my thumbs not knowing what to do with all the extra free time, which is sooo not the case ( i wish, i would actually revel quite happily in some thumb twiddling, nothing really to do, spare time)

This outfit is directly copied from this pin that has been floating around pintrest for the past couple of weeks. Weirdly, i didn't pin in to begin with, i wasn't sure, and yet i found myself thinking about it, and how i could re create it and then this outfit happened. I have to be completely honest and say i absolutely loved wearing my new stiletto's out for lunch with hubby, i felt the epitome of smart/casual. Jeans and checked shirt equals casual. stilettos had that va va voom. Its funny but these shoes most definitely put a little wiggle in my walk and bounce to my step in the best possible way. They made me feel pretty damn sexy.

And what's even nicer is these shoes only cost £15!!! They are stunning and im so happy with them and even more so for that grand price. I thought that with party season coming up, they may come in handy!

Now Trending...

Today i have the absolute pleasure of handing over the chair to the lovely Alyssa who i have had the pleasure of getting to know over the  past 6 months. Today Alyssa is going to share a current trend with us...

Now Trending: Sleeves
With summer coming to a close, we’ve all begin thinking about what we’re going to wear this fall! All fall lines have been released and the display windows of our favorite shops remind us that the leaves will be turning yellow. Sleeves are a definite part of our fall and winter wardrobes, but designers have paid special attention to all kinds of sleeves lately. Check out a few right here:

Three Quarter Length Sleeves:
The perfect sleeve to transition from summer to fall. Since fall is that weird in-between where we’re still warm, but we’re still cool – a ¾ length sleeve allows us to appreciate both climates. ¾ length sleeves look great paired with both long pants and shorts. You’ll often find this look on casual baseball tees, available at retailers like American Apparel.

Cut Sleeves:
Cut sleeves have become more and more prominent in fashion this year. You can buy or DIY the cut sleeves long on any one of your old shirts. There’s so many options when it comes to cuts, including an opening down the center of the sleeve or multiple openings all the way down the sleeve. Cut sleeves make for versatile shirts; wear them casually during the day or formally for a night out.

Lace Sleeves:
Lace sleeves transform your average top into more exciting pieces. Lace can be incorporated in shirts all different ways, from lace backs, lace fronts, and now lace sleeves. Lace sleeves are common in the wedding world right now; Kate Middleton’s stunning gown featured long and gorgeous lace sleeves. Retailers like David's Bridal offer gowns with exquisite lace sleeves, some more see-through than others, so that you can decide which is more comfortable for you.

Bell Sleeves:
Bell sleeves have come a long way. They were very fashionable in the 1970’s, but are now a part of modern and vintage trends. Bell sleeves are not tight sleeves, and ultimately hang around your arm. There’s a lot of room to move around in bell sleeves, and that’s why they are so comfortable!

Batwing Sleeves:
Batwing sleeves are much defined. The difference between this and your average sleeve is that the sleeve is connected to the bottom of the shirt, so that when you open your arms, it looks like you have bat wings! The style has become a very popular office fashion look, since tops with batwing sleeves are likely to show little skin. The tightness of sleeve from your elbow down can vary!

With so many different types of sleeves to choose from, your fall wardrobe will be mix & match heaven! All of these five types of sleeves offer something different to your ensemble, whether they’re paired with shorts, jeans, or a skirt. Which sleeves will you be spotted in this fall?

Comfort Dressing

Well hello, sorry about that week long outfit absence. First it was the never-ending rain (which is still quite present but more showers than constant at least) and then i came down with the worst cold i've had in years. Im still full up with it to be honest, and it took every ounce of will power to get dresses and put make up on this morning, but after doing it i did feel a teensey bit better. Less scary looking at least and able to face the shops for some food and supplies. But now i am back to blogging from bed as im drained...in need of a cup of tea i reckon!

Im still pretty fuzzy in the head department, you know that fog that comes down and surrounds your brain with a cold? So outfit had to be a no brainer, easy and cosy. I've had this chevron cardigan years and its retro colouring is just such a great statement in itself that it doesnt need a lot more, so i just literally went with some flared high waisted jeans (which incidentally, will be there last wear from me:( ) And some comfy wedge booties.
The hat was to try and hide my puffy face and bags under the eyes ...i have felt so so rough... i want my mum and obligatory chicken noodle soup that is a necessity when poorly.

The jeans will be going on to the ebay/sell pile as they are now too big and had to be safety pinned at the back. i didnt actually realise how much weight i'd lost to be honest. Obviously i counted those little pounds going down on the scales but its only now that i put these jeans on and remembered how tight they were previously that i can see the actuality of it.  Having lost nearly 2 stone (28 pounds, 12.7kg ) i feel great and so much healthier  (normally... stupid head cold..grrr), but i may gave to make a few replacements in some new jeans

Thanks so much for all your money saving tips, advice, encouragement. Its definitely on over here!! We are starting our disney fund for sure. In the mean time though we have managed to get a great little deal of a break for the october half term for all of us. We are going to stay in Cornwall for 4 nights in a luxury caravan. The kids love caravan holidays and the park looks lovely so i'm excited to get away with them and have fun! I hope the weather will be dry so we can do lots of woodland walks and go to the beach and eat fsh and chips and  scones with Cornish clotted cream and jam...YUMMERS! Cornwall is one of my most favourite places, have you ever been?

Well thats enough from me, how are you?

Meet the Girls...

Want to meet some pretty amazing ladies? Of course you do.who doesnt?!
I have to say i have had the complete pleasure of chatting and making wonderful online friendships with all of these wonderful girlies and if the galactic stars should ever align and bring us all in to the same place at the same time , then i think it would be one hell of a good time..

Meet Donna::: Polka Dot Pink:::

Hi, I'm Donna. A primary teacher living life in colour and penning my tales and outfits over at
Lover of music, especially live music, you can often find me in Manchester, England, watching up and coming bands and snapping street art. Forever living on a budget, forever visiting Berlin. Well and truly bitten by the travel bug. Fashion, travel, street art, music...it's the detail in life what matters. Come and say hi! I'd love to meet you.

Meet Erica::: Being Erica:::

hi! my name is erica and i blog over at  Being Erica. my blog is a mixture of lifestyle, personal style, and everything else in between. i'm australian by birth, but british at heart, and i spend my time moaning, begrudging the weather, and drinking cups of... coffee. ok, so i'm not quite there yet, but close enough! i'm thrifty (cheap), crafty (glue things together), and love a good lie in (lazy), and especially love meeting new people (you!).  being erica is basically just the clueless musings of an eternal tween-ager with an entirely too-big dress collection. come say hi!

Meet Paulette::: Rorschach Coffee and 1963:::

Paulette Hughes has been, at various points in her life: a bellydancer, a crazy cat lady, an intramural bowler, and a terrible singer. She now enjoys harassing her husband and child with recipe trials, various articles of clothing left in piles around the house, and an omnipresent Canon Rebel. She blogs about vintage fashion, takes photos of strange things, and makes way too many sweets at Rorschach, Coffee, and 1963.

These ladies are all beautiful, funny , intelligent sweethearts and i implore that you go pay them a nice Saturday morning visit ;-)

Thoughts and Plans

It is certainly feels autumnal around here of late, chilly weather and unfortunately lots of rain. Thats the only problem with autumn/winter here in the UK, rain in abundance...sheesh.. !
But with rainy days come duvet days and hot chocolates and tights and wooly cardigans :) that i am most definitely on-board with.
When each new season begins it gets me thinking about what i would like to do in the coming months, what plans i want to lay down and where i would like this season to lead. I don't know, maybe its the rainy days making me a little introspective, but its good. in a few months i will be 29!! (uhmagod)

So it got me thinking, with my little boy starting school, i feel like i physically miss him each day. I really want to give him a wonderful treat. Hubs and i talked about it and thought how wonderful it would be to take him to Disneyland. The thought of seeing his little face when he sees Buzz Lightyear and Mickey Mouse makes me want to save every penny i have to take him to that magical place. Its not something we really can afford in our normal budget but here's my plan..

a. Shop Less... this needs to be for reals... i shop waaay to much and need very little in the clothing department.
b. Ebay..all clothes that no longer fit/don't get worn. I may even do a blog sale again if anyone's interested, all money can then go in to our Disney fund
c.Sell Games/Cds/DVDS/Computers/ Hubs has SO many that he no longer use, hes a major techie geek so we have lots of old pc's and laptops etc that arent needed and we dont use, also all our cd's/dvd's are on hardrives or digitally these days, we dont need so many of them.
This is a seriously great way to make some extra £££.
d. Sell a kidney.. ummm this may be a last resort... we'll see, haha
Do you have any great money making ideas or saving ideas for a very special fund?

I seriously need to work on the whole shop less thing, i bought this dress last week in Matalan. Its like the perfect transitional dress, and i can see me wearing it with tights and chunky cardigans through winter, but now i was channelling this look. I am loving the colours, the burgandy is such a great colour and paisley is one of my favourite prints, i had been looking for a dress like this for months! Pleased as punch with it. But still..no more shopping rachel!!!
Have you ever gone on a no spend?
