Golden Hour in my Surfdome Dress

Wow, life has been buy in this neck of the woods lately, work, work, work and then some play, in the wonderful sun that we've been having here in the UK. So this is what summer feels like huh? Amazing.. feel like i'm a kid again!
I was lucky enough to catch 'Golden Hour' on Monday, the photographers dream lighting. I don't normally get to frolic about in such wonderful light as Golden Hour is often a bit in convenient for me to go take photos, im usually bathing kids/putting them to bed/ chilling out by this point. But child free on Monday hubs and i went for a warm evening stroll and it was perfection.

Having been in my crappy polyester uniform all day i could not wait to get out of it and put on a light and breezy summer dress.
This one was the first one to mind as i have just received it from theses guys.
The dress is by Animal, the surfer type brand, which i have been a wearer of since i was 15 (omg that's 14 years people...scarrrry!!) I used to be a girl in board shorts and a bikini. I grew up in a beach town and lived most of my summers at the sea side, by a skate park and a surfers haven. I've never actually mounted a surf board so i wasn't a fully fledged surfer girl, more a phony one who sits on the beach and wears the surfer girl clothes... see its always been about the clothes for me apparently haha! But yehhhh, those were some amazing summers.

When Surfdome contacted me and asked if i wanted to pick a little something out, this was the little number i chose.
Bright colours, chevrony goodness and multiple uses.
I can see this as a great beach cover up with a bikini and it would also look great with some wedges and heavy jewellery all dressed up for an evening, with its plunging neck line its kinda perfect. I super dooper love it. So does hubby (he gave it two thumbs up... result!)
Surfdome has some of my most favourite brands, which until recently i did not even to think to look there, but now i know where i will be headed for my next dress fix. They stock, Joules, Animal, French Connection, Converse to name just a few of my favourites (and they also ship internationally really really reasonably!) Needless to say i am suitably impressed!!

Even though i don't live by a beach anymore (its not too far, about 35 minute drive now) i do love the rolling hills of the countryside i have around me. Each month it just looks completely different. I love seeing this countryside from month to month take on different shapes, its really beautiful. And of course the sun shinning makes everything a million times nicer!

Are you a countryside, beach or city girl at heart?

  1. Rachel these photos are a dream - you've caught the golden hour beautifully - and I so love that dress, I saw it myself on the Surfdome website myself and considered it! It looks simply fabulous on you, you wear lots of colours so well.

Plus I've had a little revelation - I've realised who you remind me of: I think you look like Kendi (Everyday)! Phew, I'm so relieved to have worked that out :)

Hope you're well my lovely and enjoying the heatwave!

  2. Forgot to answer your question! After 11 years of living in the countryside, I realise I'm a city girl at heart... I just can't afford to go back to London unfortunately! Probably why I go back several times a year, it's the next best thing :)

  4. That is such a cute dress :) and looks super comfortable! And you did get amazing lighting for those photos! idk if I'm a country, city, or beach girl. I grew up in the country, I live in the city now, and I'd love to move to the beach eventually! I guess I'm all three!

  7. That dress is gorgeous! I'm definitely a city girl - I don't think I'd like living in the countryside, I'm very comfortable in my wee town! Xo

  11. That is a beautiful dress!! I think I'm an island girl. I lived for 4.5 years on a tropical island...when I was growing up, my family always took vacations to an island in the Great Lakes separating the US and Canada...and I love Islands. Something about always being close to the beach...always having a little bit of civilization but not too much, always sort of living in a mini universe cut off from the rest of the world....it's kind of cool!

  12. I've never done Golden Hour shooting. Actually, I think I kinda did once, but it was in the suburbs (so still lots of stuff in the way of the sun) and with my point and shoot. So it didn't really come out the way I'd wanted it to. Any tips on getting the perfect golden hour picture?

  13. I used to shop at a surfer/skater store when I was in high school too. Even though I never did either activity! I understand haha. I love this dress you got though! It's so colorful and adorable. And the lighting in these pictures is definitely gorgeous.
