Saving for a Rainy days

Happy Wednesday Chick-a-dees

Half way through the week and its been a bit of a rainy one. Showers and cool temperatures.
Last night Hub's and i went for a meal with friends, 'twas yummy!
I'm trying to spend less on clothes and normally when we go out for a meal i would buy myself a new frock for the occasion...any excuse! But i have a wardrobe full of dresses. I have plenty to choose from that see the light of day once/twice a year. I want to change this. i want to re-mix more. I want to get some wear out of the current beauties i already own. I want to save some money to decorate our house.
So with that in mind and a talking to from hub's. I am inflicting a no spend on myself.
Take this dress. i've had it in my wardrobe since last September, brand new with the tags, never been worn. I have a few pieces like that and honestly, it feels wasteful.
Now if you know me, you know i love to shop. I love the feel of a brand new outfit on, i love picking something out and taking it home to add to my ever growing collection, and i love giving it its debut here on this blog for all you lovelies to see.
So this no spend will be tough.... REEAALLYY tough. i'm not going to give myself a time limit, i'm gunna play it by ear. I may last a week, a month, two months, but what i really want to do is utilise what i already have! In my mind i already have a few exceptions to my own rule. Ha! I will allow some thrifting, charity shop small purchases. And i will allow myself the odd nail polish and beauty products... a girl has needs right?! But general shopping on the high street will pause for a while. WISH ME LUCK!

it looks like i'm floating...magic i tell ya!

Dress: Miss Selfridge last year
Shoes: Poetic Licence
Umbrella: Vintage
Clutch: Warehouse (6 years old)
Photos by hubby :)
So this outfit i have mentioned is from last year. It's one of those up-down, mullet, all back short front dresses. If i'm honest, i wasn't sure i liked them. I've seen lots of bloggers rocking them and looking great but i wasn't sure they were for me. probably why it's been sat there since last year. But i wore it out last night and it was lovely! It was a great practical length and made feel real fancy pants!!
Funny story, i had some stockings on as it was grey and cold, but walking from the car i quickly realised the elastic had gone in one of them, before i knew it it was dangling around my knee in clear view for all to see. Classy!! I had to make a quick trip to the ladies as soon as i got to the restaurant and disposed of the faulty goods immediately. My legs felt free :)

So ladies i will love you and leave you

  1. Its a lovely dress and looks fab on. I am sure you won't have any worries finding things to remix.

As for the stocking episode, it happens to me quite frequently. Such an embarrassment as well as a pest.

  2. That dress is lovely, and once again I like the interesting photo effects! I've been trying to cut down on my shopping lately too and the way I find it easiest is simply to limit the number of times I can go to the shops. I only let me go out twice a month, once to all my favourite charity shops and once along the high street, and I only take £30 with me.

Anyway, good luck! I can't wait to see how your shopping ban goes xo

  3. Love this dress! Kinda like going shopping in your cupboard when you find items with the tags on, it's awesome! And the floaty effect in your photos is so cool!!
I'm so nervous with stockings for exactly that reason!! Xo

  6. Gorgeous dress, can't believe you hadn't worn it before! I sort of do this, I've cut down on buying for a specific occasion because I can easily make the smallest occasion a perfect excuse to shop.....but I still shop and just take longer deciding if I actually want an item and when I'll wear it etc. Cutting out high street shopping would be hard work! Good luck xxx

  14. You look lovely, as always! Love the photos as well! Good luck with the no spend rule. I did that for about 6 months last year, though like you I allowed myself charity shop spends and thrifting... I'm sure you'll do well. It can be fun working with what you've already got! xx

  15. Oh god I think I'm doing a shopping band next month, it's going to KILL me! But like you said its wasteful not wearing what you have, we want to paint and that too. This is such a cute dress! Those shoes are Mazing!! Xx

  16. That is a great dress and fabulous color, I too am trying not to spend money until we go to New York At the end of July . It is very hard - I have to stay away from the mall. I think it is best not to go cold turkey but allow yourself a thrifted piece or two. I also love having an occasion to get a new outfit, but I was able to get a fabulous dress for $9.00 and that isn't enough for a movie ticket-that's my justification :)

  17. You look beautiful and I'm swooning for your umbrella.

I found you from the ModSquad and I'm glad I did! Your blog is insanely cute and well designed! And apparently, we read a lot of the same blogs!

  19. That dress is gorgeous! I am glad it was you rather than me with the stocking incident as my legs are usually kept unshaved unless I'm prepared haha. That could have been unfortunate...

  20. I am the same way, Rachel! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels so guilty having dresses with tags on them even after a year! I have about ten items in my closet (probably more actually) with tags on them and some go back as far as two years ago! I just forget to wear them. In the last couple months I've been good about shopping my closet, versus spending extra money on dresses, so I'm pretty proud of myself. Every now and then I'll splurge if I'm COMPLETELY in love with a new dress, but I always try and remind myself that I don't really NEED it. I'm wanting to give life to my dresses already in my closet like you. Some of them also don't come out but only once or twice a year. (I swear you're my twin when it comes to shopping after reading this post! lol) And it's so funny because I think that it's excusable to thrift, since those pieces are so inexpensive. And nail polish, omg I've been buying so much of it lately! :) Whew! I said too much already. I love the dress and the Poetic Licence shoes (I have several pairs of those too). The rainy day pictures looks so charming. Especially with the touch of that pretty umbrella. ♥

  21. oh my little floating fairy :) this outfit is so retro rad! i love the shoes to pieces!
good luck with the self-imposed shopping embargo! i know how hard that can be. but seeing as how you'll allow yourself little "cheats" at the thrift and such, i bet you'll be able to hold out for a good, long while. and if you don't i'll still love you anyway.

love the story about ripping off the hose. good riddance to bad rubbish, i believe is what they say. :) good thing you noticed it before anyone else did!

i'm sending warm and sunny wishes your way.
i hope you have a wonderful weekend, my dear!

  23. I can not for the life of me shop my closet. I, like you, love to shop, love the feel of new things (even if they're thrifted), and love debuting them on my blog. The real problem that I'm faced with is having more clothes than I know what to do with. It's sad I tell ya! But your dress is really adorable. Had you have worn it last year you would have been ahead of trend no one would've understood the concept of the 'mullet cut'. But that's a good thing though.
